FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your certifications?

I am a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist through the American Dietetic Association and a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor with a BS in Nutrition and a minor in Dance.

What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

As a Registered Dietitian, I have completed a BS in Nutrition, and an American Dietetic Association Accredited internship, as well as passed a national exam. I also have the ability to diagnose nutrition related problems. A ‘nutritionist’ is a blanket statement that anybody can claim themselves as.

Can you diagnose medical conditions?

Short and simple answer – No. I can diagnose nutrition-related problems.

what does anti-diet dietitian mean?

I call myself an “anti-diet” dietitian because my work with clients is about rejecting the diet mentality. Together we’ll work on creating a peaceful relationship with food in order to support you physical, mental, emotional, and social well being without the restrictive rules, guilt, and shame that is indicative of most traditional diets.

What if I have diabetes or another health condition] and i need to follow a diet?

While I am “anti-diet”, I do offer medical nutrition therapy, and when indicated, will offer evidence-based approaches to support your medical condition with nutrition management. This rarely includes eliminated specific foods or food groups (unless you have an allergy!) and is completely individualized to fit your stage of life and unique circumstances.

What if I already follow a specific diet, like a Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free diet? Will I have to stop?

My goal is to help you figure out what will work best for you. If you feel good (and that means both physically and mentally) on a vegan diet, rock on with your bad self. I’m more concerned about your motivation for following a specific diet, rather than the diet itself. My job is to educate you, and help you live your best life. If that life includes a vegan diet, I won’t try to stop you!

You said you don't offer weight loss programs, but my dr. told me i'm overweight. Don’t I need to lose weight in order to be healthy?

Unfortunately (and fortunately!) health is complex. And contrary to what we’ve been taught, the number on the scale is actually a very poor indicator of overall health. Instead, we take a behavioral approach to health, which means we focus on implementing health promoting behaviors in a way that works for your stage of life and unique circumstances. This may or may not change your weight. By taking the goal of weight loss off the table, we are able to focus on practices that can have a truly positive affect on both your physical and mental health.

I like what you’re saying, but I still want to lose weight. Can I still work with you?

Look, if there wasn’t a piece of you that didn’t want to lose weight, you’d likely not be reaching out to me. What I ask is that you are at least open to the possibility of not losing weight. Can you entertain the idea of health for health’s sake? If the answer is no. That’s okay too. But do you want the answer to be yes? That’s the real question.

What results can you guarantee from your services?

Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee you results, because as you may have gathered YOU are the only one who can make that guarantee. But, I can guarantee that I will give you the TOOLS to help you reach your goals. I will listen carefully and I will make sure that you have the support you need to develop a healthier relationship with food and your body.

do you offer sliding scale rates?

I do not. The only instance where I would offer a refund is if I, for whatever reason, don't deliver on the service you've purchased. However, that has never, and will never happen!
